Customers from the Southampton Disabilities service decided that they would like to get stuck in and make a range of sweet treats for the cake stall at the Jubilee Picnic in Eastleigh.
So, they enrolled on a 5-week baking course at City College in Southampton so that they could learn the best way to keep people happy at the picnic!
Hats on, aprons tied and sleeves rolled up ready, each week a step by step demonstration was given for making different treats. First on the menu were scones followed by millionaire shortbread biscuits in the second week, fairy cakes in the third week, and tray bakes, coated in lovely lemon drizzle or colourful cherries and almonds, in the fourth week.
In the final week, bakers made a combination of these between them, resulting in a varied spread for the picnic the following day. Volunteers agreed prices with any profit going back into the social fund.
The group thoroughly enjoyed themselves, learnt some new skills and the cake stall went down a treat.
