Digby’s Court is a Direct Access Hostel in Braintree, Essex offering short term supported housing to people who are homeless.
The scheme consists of 21 self-contained properties which can accommodate both single people and families. Customers are referred from Braintree District Council whilst an assessment is made of their homeless application and can stay at the hostel until a decision is made by the council.
Each household is allocated a keyworker who will offer customers housing related support during their stay at Digby’s Court. Each households will have a support plan and will target the following:
- Housing options and move-on
- Income, benefits and money management
- Health and wellbeing
- Employment, training and education
- Family support such as assisting children into schools
- Accessing/signposting to agencies in the local area
The scheme is open from 8am-7pm Monday-Friday, with 5 hours of varying shift times on a Saturdays and Sundays. The team consist of three full time Housing Support Workers who work shifts within a rolling rota.
We also provide two Crash Pad facilities at the scheme for people from the age 16, offering emergency accommodation for people who have nowhere else to go. One flat has been designed to wheelchair accessible standards.
Homeless cases need to present to Braintree District Council in the first instance.
If the council deem that they have a duty to assess their case, they will then refer them to Digby’s Court.
