Around two thousand people with care and support needs enjoyed a great day out at a festival in Essex last week.
The festival, organised by Family Mosaic, took place at Orsett Hall, Essex, and was themed around helping people with a diverse range of needs improve their health, wealth and wellbeing.
The event saw our care and support customers travel from across London, Essex and Kent to the countryside venue and, with over 30 experiences and activities on offer all aimed at improving health, wealth and wellbeing, there was no chance of anyone getting bored.
Lots to do
For the more musically mind there was singing, drumming and dancing. For those looking for a new hobby there were art classes, basket weaving, and knitting amongst others. For the more adventurous and active there was a climbing wall, segway and a football tournament. Those just looking to relax were able to enjoy the sunshine in the venue’s well kept 13 acre grounds.
There was also free massage and healthy foods along with information and advice about setting up a business, managing finances, keeping safe and staying healthy.
Celebrating customers’ achievements
The event was rounded off with an Oscars themed awards ceremony, that celebrated the amazing achievements of the people that Family Mosaic supports, in categories such as service to the community, volunteering and ‘unsung hero’.
Rose Watts, a Family Mosaic customer from Tunbridge Wells really enjoyed the event: “I though it was brilliant; a fantastic day out! I did the Indian Head Massage, chair massage, dancing, watched the lady singing, and looked at the animals. It was great to be able to have as much fruit as you could eat from the fruit stand and the treat myself to the chocolate fountain. I would definitely go to the festival if they run it again.”
Donna, a customer from our Castlepoint service, said: “Today was amazing for me. I don’t think any one part was my favourite because the whole event was remarkable. So many amazing people, so much thought and effort to make us feel special, cared about and encouraged to move forward with so much valuable and important advice as well as being pampered. … I could never have even contemplated attending such an event a few months ago, the fact that I was away from my safe space for so many hours is largely thanks to the amazing support I receive from my Family Mosaic Support Worker, Victoria.”
Still more to come
Another festival for customers in Hampshire and Sussex will be taking place on 10 June at Butlin’s in Bognor.
