Jareem Hughes recently arranged for the Get Healthy Get Active (GHGA) team to join in a competitive re-match following their triumph over the staff team back in April.
The staff obviously couldn’t live with the previous defeat and wanted to try and redress the balance and re-gain some pride so they headed back to Hackney Marshes to prepare for the match.
The Get Healthy, Get Active team are all Family Mosaic customers from the Hackney area who have mental health issues and the staff team consisted of support workers from the Hackney mental health team along with regional director Alex Reeve.
The match kicked off and within the first half an hour the staff team had managed to score three times! The GHGA team made a couple of important substitutions to try and stem the flow of goals until half time.
When the whistle blew it gave the GHGA team a chance to re-group and have a motivating team talk from their player manager Jareem Hughes, sports coach in the Family Mosaic London supported housing team.
The second half kicked off in what was now stifling, humid conditions so it was going to be a test of each team’s fitness, stamina and endurance.
The staff team were without two of their most influential players from the first half which gave the GHGA team a chance to dominate – especially with their more focused and organised attitude. They were able score four goal in quick succession, taking them to 4–3 up with under fifteen minutes left to play.
The staff team didn’t give in though and they came back with the best goal of the game to tie the match 4-4. Despite a couple of penalties from both sides, the score remained level and eventually ended in a draw.
It was another great game with a perfect result. Well done to all the players, officials, supporters and the medical team and look out for the next game!
