Congratulations to one of the July Gold WOW award winners, Bob Gerrard, handyperson for care and support in London.
Bob was nominated by Charlie Fitzpatrick, Family Mosaic health and wellbeing worker in London, who wanted to recognise all Bob’s hard work during the recent celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Bob singlehandedly organised a party at Kings Avenue, a sheltered housing scheme in Redbridge he works at as a handyperson, in celebration of the Queen’s special day.
Bob organised the whole event, which 18 people attended, including sorting out all the food, prizes and decorations. He also co-ordinated staff to come along to help with the decorating and the buffet.
The communal lounge was transformed and everyone commented on how lovely it looked and, along with the buffet, Bob also organised a quiz and a nought and crosses duelling competition which everyone got involved in.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves but the event was really topped by the visit of fancy ‘Lady Roberta’ to give out the prizes and gifts (really Bob dressed up!).
Kate Jones, Family Mosaic’s contract manager for London care and support, is impressed at Bob’s commitment:
As well as being a great caretaker, Bob is super-popular with the tenants in our sheltered housing schemes in Hackney and Redbridge where he works. He makes time to stop and chat to people and is always ready and willing to get stuck in with events like the Queen’s 90th birthday party.
This went down a storm with the folks at Kings Avenue, particularly the special guest appearance by ‘Lady Roberta’. Bob also recently arranged for a young man to undertake work experience at Family Mosaic to give him a taste of the housing sector. He is a great example of one of our staff who is always going the extra mile.
Charlie was also impressed with all the extra work that Bob put into the event:
Bob went out of his way (and his role) to ensure everyone was included and had a good time. This isn’t unusual though, as Bob always goes the extra mile to help tenants he works with whether this be by carrying their shopping up the stairs if the lift is broken or organising amazing events such as this one for the Queen’s birthday.
Congratulations to Bob, a very worthy Gold Wow award!
