The Islington Young People service is a supported housing scheme for young people aged 16 – 21 who have housing support needs in the London Borough of Islington.
The scheme consists of two houses, one in Newington Green for male customers and one at Mildmay for female customers. The service offers a total of eleven rooms with communal lounges, gardens and an office on site at one of the houses.
Our staff can support you around a range of different areas to enable you to become as independent as possible. The support includes:
- Maintaining an tenancy with a view to moving into independent accommodation
- Linking in with healthcare services
- Reducing your substance misuse and offending behaviour
- Budgeting and managing money and benefits
- Increasing social and living skills and broadening support networks
- Links into education, training and work opportunities
- Developing your life skills
Every customer has a support plan that reflects your support needs and aspirations. Support workers regularly review these plans with you to make sure that they still reflect your needs.
We also maintain good links with other external services and work closely with social workers as many customers are care leavers. Along with this support, we are also able to offer you help via our in-house employment team and volunteering team who can help you look into training, education and employment.
The scheme lasts for up to one year and when you are ready to move on, staff can help you explore your options for moving on.
Staff are available on site daily, including late nights three times a week. An on-call manager is available via telephone for emergencies and there is also a 24 hour emergency repair line.
