Every year at this time, staff from our Here to Help and Carepoint services in Havering work with their local radio station, Time FM, to wrap and distribute toys and gifts donated by businesses and the local community.

Both these services offer a range of free, short term visiting and drop-in support to people within the Havering area to develop their independent living skills.

These gifts are given out at a party in Romford organised by staff for local families on low incomes along with residents from local hostels and care services. This year’s party, funded by the Family Mosaic Community Foundation, is expecting over 170 parents, carers and children, most of whom will be struggling to provide a Christmas for their families.

This annual event has grown in size each year and everyone has an amazing time enjoying a lovely buffet and then gifts given out from Father Christmas. A percentage of the gifts are also delivered to families in our Here to Help and Carepoint services that aren’t able to attend the party.

Norma Busby, one of the Managers of the Here to Help and Carepoint services, is always impressed by the generosity the scheme experiences:

Every year we are overwhelmed by the support this project receives from the local community. There are many families in need at this time of year and it can be a real struggle to make ends meet, let alone afford presents for their children. But no-one should be without a gift during the festive period and this collection makes sure that doesn’t happen.
