PT_LOGO_000A group of young people from City College Brighton and Hove’s Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme recently helped transform an outside space used by young parents and their children in Brighton.

The Family Mosaic Young Parents scheme in Gocher Court, provides housing related support to young families. The outside area at the scheme is a great place for children to play safely but needed some help to make the most of the space.

Prior to starting work, the 13 strong team had been busy collecting donations for the project including toys, tiles, paint, plants, flowers and tools, all kindly contributed by members of the local community.

“The team all really engaged with the type of practical self-driven work required for this project”, said Team Leader Alex Bellamy. “For many of them, this was their first experience of some of the tasks involved but they all rose to the challenge and felt a strong sense of ownership and pride in their work.”

The area was weeded and planted followed by the walls being painted. A mosaic was created for the space and the team even painted some games on the floor for the children to enjoy.
